I grew up in Los Angeles and became a believer when I was 18 years old. Instantly, the Lord gave me a hunger for the word and radical faith. As a child of the ’60s, I lived through a racially volatile time in our history. The season etched in my soul an appreciation for the beauty of diversity in the community, a hunger for creative solutions to resolve conflict, and a heart for justice and liberty. I love the consciousness of San Francisco and am excited to partner with the Lord in the good works He has set before us.

I am so thankful for my husband, Greg, and feel privileged to watch from the best seat in the house his phenomenal leadership that loves extravagantly. We have been married for over 30 years and have a beautiful daughter, Zhita, who is the joy of my life.

Colleen James Howell

Worship Minister

I grew up in Upland, CA and met Ryan while at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. We married in 1999 and attended grad school together at UC Riverside, where I studied environmental economics. After two years in Bakersfield, the Lord moved us in 2007 to San Francisco. In January 2016 we stepped inside Authentic Church and felt an instant sense of belonging.

I became the Worship Minister in 2019, fulfilling a call God had prepared me for since I was a child. I am most grateful right now for our two daughters and their modeling of unconditional love, curiosity, joy, friendship, and pure faith. In my free time (haha!) I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, running, and having friends over for a meal at our home in the Sunset. My favorite food is any kind of vegetable (cooked or in a salad), and also brownie sundaes.
